The lockclip has an ambidextrous grip and an action that can be used even with thick gloves and cold fingers. There are a number of problems with existing clips that the lockclip addresses:

· 1 Hook Form: due to the hooked form of existing clips, they cannot be released under tension. The clip first has to be unweighted, then moved in the opposite direction to the weighting before it becomes free of the attachment point. This can be a major problem where a quick release is required, or unweighting the clip is difficult.

· 2 Exposed catch: long recognised amongst climbing equipment manufacturers as a design flaw, the slot at the end of a standard clip hook frequently catches on release. Advanced designs of climbing carabiners use keyed systems or a shrouded catch to avoid this problem.

· 3 Opening size: standard clips have a limited opening size, exacerbated by the fact that the operator's fingers will obstruct the opening because of the way the clip operates. To clip onto anything other than the smallest attachment points, fingers have to be shuffled back, while still holding the gate open. This is a very awkward manoeuvre, requiring time and considerable dexterity. These are often in short supply on a heaving, cold, water-lashed deck.

Replacing the standard harness clip, and complying with British and Australian Standards, lockclip has a number of advantages:

· 1 Positive Closure: the locking pin actually mates with the body of the clip, ensuring an effective closure. There are no hooked ends to snag line or wire when removing, giving smooth, quick releases every time.

· 2 Tensioned Releasable: unlike nearly all other connectors, lockclip can be released while it is weighted. Yet because of its locking action, accidential release is prevented. This feature makes the lockclip very easy to operate in awkward positions or when carrying heavy loads. If a boat rolls or other strong forces are exerted, release of standard clips may be impossible.

· 3 Locking Mechanism: opening the lockclip is a 2-stage action, preventing accidental operation. Its slider design protects the release button from accidential operation, while enabling quick and easy operation even with cold hands.

· 4 Tactile: narrow, standard metal clips are frequently difficult to grasp. In contrast, lockclip has a chunky, easy to grip form. Intuitive ergonomics ensure immediate and positive orientation. The clip can easily be used over or underhand - a difficult operation with old-style clips.
